View Full Version : L180 BUG report: Recurring OTA recording fails IF there's another satellite recording

Took me awhile to figure out why. I have set my 921 to record Jay Leno Monday thru Friday.. and another OTA show daily between 6pm to 8pm.

Most of the time the OTA timers worked perfectly... except I did have a few missed tapings.

One night I was up when Leno was on. I noticed that only the newly added timer for HBO HD was recording, not the Leno one that's been reliably recorded in the last few nights.

So my conclusion is: 921 is only capable of dual-turner recording if both events are SAT based. You can't record from both OTA and SAT at the same time per timer settings.

I think it is a little more complicated than that. It depends what the tuner that isn't recording is doing...

If SAT is recording and you are watching another SAT live, the OTA will fail.
I think if the second tuner is otherwise unoccupied (ie. the 921 is turned off), both can succeed.

I've definitely gotten in the habit of turning off the 921 when I'm not watching it. That seems to be the best way to make sure most timers fire.

You could be on to something there, Steve. I seem to remember being told my Mark that the sat tuners and OTA tuners were independent (sorry Mark if I mis-remembered). Things like this start to smell like that's not true. If so, the 921 should give the same warning it does for the start of a second sat recording while watching something live on a non-recording channel.
