Hi all,
I have been noticing that when I go into the DVR menu, many times the preview image in the upper right corner is distorted. Almost like each alternating line is being pulled apart. I go into the guide and it is ok and back to DVR and it is messed up again.
FREAK!

I've seen and reported this, but the preview windowsa are distorted only with 720p signals (ie ESPNHD, ABC OTA and Fox OTA). Are you seeing distortion with 1080i source channels?

The preview window in the DVR screen has never worked on my 921. And I mean never, not since I got it Dec 31st. It doesn't matter what channel or what resolution. I have sound, but the video consists of the bottom 1/8 of the picture, badly distorted and the rest of the picture is black.
There have been several bug reports on the preview window, so I figured everybody else was seeing the same problem. Sounds like this is different.

I see exactly what you describe, Jim, except that I only see the 1/8th screen distortion after I have finished watching a DVR event and am deleting it. During the deletion process, the preview window activates with audio and the 1/8th screen distortion. Makes no difference what the source resolution of the channel is.

Mark,
I am not sure if it was a 720 or 1080 signal. I did not make note of that. I will check tonight. In what you have observed, is it when the 921 output was set to 1080i or 720p because I had it set until recently to 720p and never noticed this. I recently switched it to 1080i.
which brings up another point. On the last software upgrade, my video preference was changed to 480p.

Yes, that also happened to me when we got the 180 upgrade. My video was changed from 1080i to 480p? Does anyone know why that would happen?

OK, then we see the same thing. I had forgotten to post about the "after watching and deleting" portion.

Freak - my 921 is set to 1080i, and the distortion happens only when viewing 720p source channels. I don't have a 720p display, so I can't test going that direction.
Yeah, that's what happened to me originally with the L180 version. I think something was added to boot the 921 in 480p rather than 1080i/720p because all HD displays can display 480p, but not all can display 720p. That's a guess on my part.

I checked last night and the preview window distortion is on 720p chennels.
'I have sound, but the video consists of the bottom 1/8 of the picture, badly distorted and the rest of the picture is black.'
However, I do see somthing like this (bottom 2/3 screen has a distored image and top is black) but NOT on 720p chennels.
FREAK!
I also see what FREAK is seeing and I have seen this behavior from the beginning.

I had not seen it before the L180 update because I was running 720p before. Now I am running 1080i and see it.

I get lots of bleeding on both the guide preview window and the DVR window. Sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical, also both. Usually I do not get blank/black areas in either though.
Mine is 1080i.
I should add, I have always seen this. Seems worse with L180, but mostly an annoyance in any case.

I am seeing all of this also..1/8 screen image, horizontal distortion. Have sound but sometimes no image.
I posted a bug report just now before I found this thread. I appologize for posting it in the wrong area.
Does this appear to be software related or could it be hardware?

Definitely software, and has been there since the beginning. It only happens when you are deleting a DVR event that you've just finished watching. Part of the way throught the deletion process, the audio starts, and you get the 1/8th screen distorted picture.

Yes, the distortion goes away when the 921's output is set to 720p whilst viewing a 720p source signal. My TV accepts 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i so I tested it. As you have observed, the distortion (ghosting and horizontal lines) is there when viewing 720p material with the 921 set for 1080i output.
