View Full Version : Feature Request:ability To Edit Recordings
Is there any chance via software upgrades, the 921 will have the ability to edit recordings? I'm thinking along the lines of being able to make highlight clips from a game or cutting commercials from shows that you may want to archive to a DVD or whatever future technology the 921 may offer for archiving. !pride

Don't hold your breath.
It's technically possible I'm sure, but who's going to pay for the development?

It seems futile to even think about product enhancements given how far behind they are on getting the basic functionality to work.

This will never happen. It was theoretically possible on the 501/508/510 too, right? That product is quite stable, and yet these sorts of enhancement are not planned and (as far as I can tell) never will be. We are talking a major chunk of code to bring in even a rudimentary video editing tool; simply not within the scope of the product.

I just want stability, no missed timers, and OTA program guide info. If I want to edit, I can offload to a PC and do it there much more easily.

kmcnamara,
How would you offload to your pc? Is this option available now, or via future USB cable? !pride

Personally, I can do it 1 of 2 ways - both analog. Run audio and s-video from the receiver to my D8 camcorder which will convert the signal to firewire on the fly to capture as DV. The other option is to use those same cables and run them to my hardware MPEG encoder to create on the fly DVD-compliant MPEG2 files.
The quality either way is very good.
*** By the way, I realize this will not do anything for recording HD, but I don't have disk space for that anyway. ***

This is probably out of the question too, but what about just providing the ability to join together recordings that have been split by reboots?

How about they just stop the box from spontaneously rebooting instead. :)
I think that might be a better use of their limited programming resources.

Jeez, band-aids on top of band-aids, eh.
Yesterday, at my home, the 921 crashed not once, not twice, but three times in a single day. I was treated to an earful of "I thought you said these crashes were fixed, or at least supposed to happen less often!" comments. Groan.
