View Full Version : Why don't they put another HD on 110 Tp 13?

Only have HDPPV and HD Events there, :D

Right now dish only puts 2 HD channels per transponder. It would be more efficent if they would replace the Events with another channel like TNTHD and just use the PPV to show events on it when they have them. I don't think anyone has ordered a HD PPV anyways so that's also a waste. They'd probably make more by adding another channel to keep some customers than havving that PPV, unless they're ever going to show some PPV movies on it.

TNT-HD and Cinemax HD would be good ones to add.

Not exactly correct. ;)

those tests that you're referring to on the 148 no longer show up on lyngsat, so I would assume that the 3 HD / transponder move is a lost cause...

Lyngsat is not the authority in "Tests". And I am not referring to 148. Notice what Tp I mentioned. ;)

Actually I'm suprised Dish hasn't used the config. of ESPN-HD/HD PPV/HD Events on Tp. 13. Since ESPN-HD is 720p and the PPV Movie channel is 24fps Dish probably could get away with 3 channels on that Tp. and that would open up a space on Tp. 17 for an additional channel.

Or have they? :)

Wow, what an odd thing to see just days before TNT-HD launches, and just after Dish and Turner have finished some channel negotiations. hmmmmmm.

Should I start a thread complaining about over compression yet?

Yup. There's no time like the present to start complaining about something that hasn't been demonstrated to have happened yet. Go for it, Cyc.

It doesn't matter if there is a gob of free transponder space. Let's not forget that Charlie said there is no "compelling content" to add, so I don't see how he can go back on this and add HD without making himself look like a fool. Oh wait, he's done that numerous times already, so I guess one more time isn't a big deal for him.

He said that Back in the December Charlie Chat. It has been 1/2 a year since then. TNT-HD didn't exist back then. He can now safely add new channnels as they become available.

Channels like TNT-HD and Cinemax HD will become compelling because Comcrap is adding them to their systems. Charlie has to at least keep pace, or he will suffer the consequences. Too bad the FCC wouldn't give him the 114.5 orbital slot for another satellite just for HD. That would be the end of VOOM.

Echostar is probably holding on to the transponder space waiting to see what will be the best channels to add... They could probably add 4 more channels if they wanted to, they are probably watching voom/directv and seeing what is going to draw an audience and then add them to Dish.

Well, they better not wait too long. Voom is planning a kick ass HD DVR system this summer as well as renting more transponders space to add more channels starting in October.
By then, I may switch & sell 921!!
