Is the cancellation fee on Directv $150 if you cancel before the year is up?

I got it hooked up in January and didn't like the service compared with Dish so I switched back to Dish but have one Directv receiver still hooked up paying the promo $29.99 now still, but its ridiculous to keep paying it. I might as well pay the $150 and be done with it. I definitely don't want it when it raises to $42.99.

I have heard that if you call them up and tell them that you will send back your equipment, they can't charge you the cancellation fee. Now I'm not 100% sure if this is true if you got your equipment via 3rd party web retailer. Maybe someone could confirm or deny this for us?
