View Full Version : Split signal without going to larger multiplexer?
I have a 4-1 multiplexer sending my directv signal to four receivers throughout my house. I just got a dual tuner and would like to take advantage of the second tuner. Is there anyway I can just split (or multiplex again) the signal that is coming into that room? I would like to avoid getting a larger multiplexer (do they make 8-1?). I don't think the wife is going to be too receptive to running one more cable down the roof and into the room.

I've never heard of a 4x1 multiplexer. What dish do you have? Anyway, each tuner of the DirecTV DVR has to have a signal from the dish or from a multiswitch. If you have the round dish with a dual output LNB then it needs both lines connected to a 2x4 switch (the input number comes first). Then the outputs go to each receiver. If you have the Phase III oval dish with a built in four output switch, then you need a cascadable 4x8 switch if you need more than four lines. So, after all this, you can't just split a satellite signal. You use multiswitfches for that function.
Here's a link to the FAQ on the TiVo Community forum that explains LNBs and multiswitches.
