View Full Version : ASK DBSTalk: DVI resolution adjustment on the 921?

I have an older 50" PDP (Fujitsu PDS-5002US).

The DVI EDID sent from the Plasma to the connected device reports that the maximum resolution is 1024x768 instead if 1366x768 (misconfigured harware in the PDP). This results in the DVI input being 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the 16:9.

I can use the VGA input to drive the display, but I was particaully interested in using the DVI output of the 921.

Is there any setup screens on the 921 that allows the user to adjust the DVI output resolution?

Thanks

Using the setup menus in the 921, you can choose between 480p, 720p, and 1080i output formats. You can also set whether the television is 16:9 or 4:3.

As far as the resolutions go... The resolutions for each of these modes are fixed, by definition, although 480p can of course be two different resolutions depending on whether it's 4:3 or 16:9. There is no real reason to output any other resolution, or have "user defined resolutions", since this means the 921 would effectively be doing arbitrary scaling (e.g. "734p").

Please post your 921 display properties (Menu-6-9). It sounds like you have your 921 set to output 4x3 rather than 16x9.

Thanks for the Reply

I am currently on the waiting list.

It sounds as if the 921 does not use the EDID to determine the DVI output resolution?

I have no idea what an EDID even is...

Quoted from web: EDID - Extended Display Identification Data is a VESA standard data format that contains basic information about a monitor and its capabilities, including vendor information, maximum image size, color characteristics, factory pre-set timings, frequency range limits, and character strings for the monitor name and serial number.
