I am installing a new Direct TV satelite dish to a single receiver. I have connected the rg6 cable to one of the lnb connections, leaving the second connector capped with plastic cap (no connection).

The rg6 goes to a ground block with one inlet and two outlets. I ran rg6 from one of the outlets to the receiver satelite in connector on the receiver. The ground block and dish are grounded with #8 copper wire.
The secound ground block outlet is con connected to anything (it is capped).

THE PROBLEM: No Satelite signal detected by receiver.

I mounted and pointed the dish to the elevation and azmuith for my zip code (34668) 50elevation,218 degrees azmuith . I set the satelite to 101, and the transponder to 16, per the dish instructions. I have tried other transponers as well. All indicated 0 signal strength. I have a clear unobstructed view for the dish in the direction of the satelite. I suspect I have a wiring problem. I would appreciate any help.
THANKS IN ADVANCE Jerry

There could be several issues to check and since I'm no expert, I'll only give you a suggestion for my similar situation.

When I upgraded my main receiver a couple years ago, I aimed my dish to the coordinates given by the receiver but I had no signal. I went to an older receiver (same brand but different manufacturer) and got the coordinates from that to aim. When I did that I was able to get the signal. So I would suggest making double sure that the coordinates given by the receiver are correct.

My Sony receiver says the coordinates for your zipcode are Elevation 52, Azimuth 214. Give that a shot and see if that helps.

What you describe as a ground block doesn't make sense. I know of no ground block with one input and two outputs. They are just a regular F/F coupler with a place to connect a ground wire to the shield of the coax. What you may have there is a splitter with a ground connection. Replace it with a regular ground block.
