Remember, the DPP-44 has three purposes:

1) Allow four orbital locations to be received and switched simultaneously.
2) Provide seemless support for legacy and DishPro receivers.
3) Allow two tuner receivers to be served by a single line.

The "DishPro Splitters" are the special devices used with the DPP-44 to allow two tuner receivers (e.g. the 921) to be fed with just a single output of the DPP-44. These only work with the DPP-44, though, and the receiver has to support "DishProPlus" technology, but most two-tuner receivers should (with appropriate software updates).

PLEASE folks! It is NOT a splitter - let's not confuse people and cause threads like "The Radio Shack splitter I plugged into the feeds on my 522 caused ..."

The term is Separator.

Just for reference, it appears to have more in common with a diplexer than a splitter.

Closer to a Legacy receiver to DP switch/LNB adapter - but certainly a LOT more to it than a RS signal splitter.

Also, just in the interest of completeness...The 44 is a powered switch, and will require a power inserter on line one.

Actually, I meant to say that the 721 is NOT a DP+ receiver, and I now know that the 921 is. The 721 will always require 2 feeds while the DP+ receviers only require 1 wire from a DP+ switch.

My Dishrep says otherwise. According to him, the 721 will get a software upgrade to support the DPP44.

Oh, wait. I forgot. This is E* - the company that announced 50 HDs on 105 when even the predicted footprint told them that the old bird would be unusable for nationwide service. (New bird is ConUS plus Alaska and Hawaii - in August.)

They didn't think ahead then, why start now. :D

I was wrong. Damn! Hate it when that happens.......... :)

Anyway, the 921 actually says DP+ on it. As for the 721, as far as I have been told, it won't be DP+. However, since they are using that DP+ seperator, I would assume that I s/w update would be able to add it to the box.
Of course, I had a dish rep tell me saturday that the DP+ Twins are out there now, and I have yet to see one........so I couldn''t confirm if the 921 would work with DP+ out of the box if I wanted to :(
While the DP+ setup would save wiring, you still have to "split" the signal at the box. Having it built into the box, say running a DP+ feed into input 1 and using both for the other feeds would have been a nicer touch. Compression fittings run us about $0.25 each, so......

Yeah - not having a switchable separator built-in to the box was typical E* design idiocy.

As for the 921 actually saying DishPro Plus, well there's 2 ports that say DishWire, plus another 2 that have the USB trademark. "Well, there's your clue".

As for it being added in a software update, of course it can - it's nothing more than some new switch command codes, and some tuner control.
