125 now (hehehe).. some J. H....... dude fixed it up :D
KRII-TV 11 available.
Had to fire off an e-mail to dishquality@echostar.com
The volume on KRII is 1/2 of what the other locals are...you can't hear it unless you crank it up, then it scares the holy hell out of you when you switch to another channel.
I was going to flip between KRII (the repeater) & KBJR (the mother) to see the difference in picture quality (since they are on different TP's), and I almost wet myself when I changed from KRII top KBJR, due to how loud KBJR was after I turned up the volume on KRII. :)

Why is dish network wasting bandwidth by transmitting repeaters???? Why don't they just transmit one signal, and substitute it in for any repeaters in nearby cities? Not to be a complainer, but there's bandwidth to be gained here if they would pay more attention to what they are transmitting.

They know exatly what they are transmitting.
Two possibilities:
1) In order to get the main station's rebroadcast consent, they had to agree to take the second station which is MOSTLY a repeater, but has some of its own material.
2) The second station claimed "Must Carry (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/20)". Since one of the stations is licenced to Wisconsin and the other is licenced to Minnesota, both stations qualify for must carry under the current SHVIA law.
Dish does "mirror" several channels in several markets to save bandwidth right now. KOUN Nebraska, WUNC North Carolina and WDIN in Iowa to name just a few.
See ya

hmm, if the content (*****INCLUDING advertising******) is identical, I would assume they might be able to just pick whichever signal is cleaner and use that one, but I guess stupid rules strike once again.. oh well. I can understand though, if local advertising is tailored to specific cities in which the repeater is transmitting. Maybe they could cross compress identical LiL channels so that when the content is identical, the bandwidth is saved, and when it's not, the feeds would split off separated? Sounds like a plan, I wonder if the mpeg-2 supports this?

I remember a thread where we discussed this in the context of carrying network-level HD feeds and switching to (highly-compressed) local feeds for commercials, news, etc.
While technologically possible (duh), as I remember it, we decided it was orders of magnitude beyond what E* "engineers" are capable of.

The only thing that is different is some commercials and during the news there is a spot for Range 11 (KRII) to have local content. The Duluth DMA is a pretty wide area and KRII broadcasts covers a large part of the Iron Range, whereas KBJR covers Duluth/Superior. The only 2 full powered stations in the area are KRII (went up late last year) and WIRT (which is a complete repeater of WDIO). WIRT doesnt qualify for must carry since I think everything is the same on both (hell, they ID as 10/13 or WDIO/WIRT) and both are licensed to MN.
The only other reason I can think is DirectTv is carrying both channels when they started carrying Duluth locals (and now that Pegasus is dead Dish probably thought it would be good to carry both).
We've got 6 channels on 3 TP's :)

Dear Tony M,
Thank you for expressing your concerns and interest in the DISH Network. Customer input is an important tool in our efforts to continuously improve the quality of the DISH Network service.
Our Locals Engineering Group confirmed your concern of low audio on KRII. They made adjustments so that KRII is at the same levels as the other Duluth Locals.
At DISH Network we appreciate the time and effort taken by customers to notify us of their concerns. Thank you for your patience and for being a valued DISH Network Customer!

Very cool Tony! Excellent work!
I know a lot of us give Dish crap (heck, I'm one of them) but this proves that some areas of Dish are real good.
Noticed probelm Thursday when channel became available
e-mailed them Tuesday morning
working Tuesday night
e-mail received Wed morning
gotta love it :)
An update to my above post
I watched the 6:00 news and was flipping between KBJR and KRII to see what is the difference
about 6 minutes in, KRII does a hard cut (to a taped segment) for news stories that are relavent to the Iron Range area (Hibbing, Virginia, etc). KBJR does Duluth/Superior stories. This lasts about 4-5 minutes
KRII has a "Have a question? Want to comment" screen. This is on until it can be lined up with KBJR for commerical purposes.
The weather segment is taped on KRII and live on KBJR
Other than maybe 8-9 minutes of the news and a couple of commercials, there is no difference.
I think the reason Dish is now carrying both is because Direct does. Dish didn't carry KRII for 3 months..Direct turns up Duluth and throw in the fact that all of KRII's area use to be Pegasus, but now is Direct, Dish decided to compete and add it. The fact that both qualify for must carry helps the cause (even though KBJR is licensed to Superior, WI the studio and transmitter are in Duluth, MN) :)

sure, blame the engineers
why, without them we'd still be watching fuzzy analog cable channels, and waiting 20 minutes for the tv guide channel to finally scroll all the way around and realize that right now.. there's nothing on
Perhaps it would be better to say the Technology is not there, without referring to any one provider. Nobody has the technology.
The engineers have done quite well in getting an old 2000 to work in a system which has more than 2000 channels in the tables, not to mention all of the advancements in receiver technology. My D1 also works with D*, still.
