TV Japan?

I noticed that while DirecTV offers several Chinese channels, they do not currently offer TV Japan. Is there any word on whether it will be added in the future?

I doubt it. DirecTV doesn't focus much on the international market. It's a niche category that Dish wins in hands down. Dish has TV Japan for $25 per month. If you have DirecTV and want TV Japan, you could always get a cheap receiver and point a Dish to either 148 or 61.5 and subscribe to just TV Japan, but there would be a $5 per month access fee for not having a core package.
