It seems like a long time since the 921 was released. I would've thought the dang thing would be safe for decidedly non-cutting edge folk like me to empty his wallet on. However, judging from recent comments, it appears not.

This is most likely a ridiculous question and impossible to answer, but whatever - do you guys think that in the very foreseeable future (a few months), Dish will get their act together and release a relatively hassle-free 921? I don't mind a little tweaking and a call, maybe 2, to tech support, but that's my limit.

Do you need to have OTA? If not, you'll probably have an OK experience with the 921. Otherwise, you're asking for problems and I'd wait it out.

Looking back on my experience with the 721 , it took 18 months from the time I got it in May of 2002 for it to start being stable. Of course they did a software update about 2 months ago which added Dish Home and we now have the "unknown recording channel 77 bug" now and most of the Dish Home applications don't work yet. They have of course discontinued the 721 and are reducing it to sell out the stock. So you can expect about that length of time for the 921 to become a stable unit and then it will of course be discontinued. Look for a blow out on all 921 receivers in 2006.

I am sure Dish will do upgrades then to the 921 to get rid of all old stock. Look for $ 349.00 promotion plus a year commitment to hd pack and top 60 .:sure:

I find the 921 keep sliding backwards. I need it to do one thing well. Actually record the programs it says it will record. I find it flakey as hell. Everybody has their software issues. Tivo was no dream boat when it started, but by this stage in it's lifecycle it was rock solid. The 721 has at least one snafu each month, and is subject to off 77 UKN issues, and random locks and freezes. The 921 makes you think it's recording when it's not really doing anything. Frankly my plan now is to write a dispute letter each month for my VOD fee I'm paying for on the 921. As the 921 isn't recording video so that I can watch it on demand I don't believe I should be paying it.

And I assume you think the same thing about Microsloth Windose too :-)
