View Full Version : BUG REPORT L185: KCOP - OTA channel I can't add
I have had a recurring problem with one Los Angeles station. I did a search for this station in the forum and didnt find it. I can add all of the other LA stations, (they may come and go ... but I can add them).
I cannot ever add KCOP (digital channel 66) in Los Angeles either Manually or by scanning. When I try to add the station, it shows a signal strength for ch66 of 112. But, once I save it the newly added station, It is not found anywhere in the channel list. This is the LA UPN station (std analog channel 13). It is a quirky station, I never had a problem adding Dchannel 66 to my Mits Box. The one strange fact about this station and the Mits, is that it is the ONLY station that didn't map back to the "standard" channel # for the call sign ... which should have been 13-1.
My best guess is that there is something strange about the KCOP digital signal that the 921 isn't handling. The Mits barely handled it, and that was a reliable, bug free box .... and the station has plenty of power.

I also can't add KCOP to my 921. KCAL, digital 43, is the other channel I can't add to my 921. Are you able to add it? KCET, digital 59 can be added, but you won't be able to record it. For Los Angeles viewers, the 921 is even more crippled than it for most other 921 owners. Frankly, after all this time, I'm very pessimistic that this problem with the local DTV channels will ever be fixed.

Had the same problem with UPN in SF area. Lots of us did. There was no PSIP transmitted. Finally it worked when we tried adding it five times in a row. You might want to just keep manually adding it over and over a again a few times. It has worked for some, including myself.

Believe me, I've tried enough. I don't watch the station, so my interest isn't big. I like Enterprise, but even though they show it in HD (or at least WS), the station adds sidebars to the image. So, I gave up on it, and that was the only program I was interested in from UPN. To top it off, Viacom is moving Enterprise to Channel 9 (KCAL). Viacom owns KCAL. But, this is a 921 bug. Other tuners can handle the signal, so it is a genuine bug.

KCAL is one channel that I can add from the Scan. BUT, it isn't broadcast most of the day, so you've got to wait until they are transmitting. The bad side is that my tuner looses this on the overnight reboot. OR, when I scroll past it during the day, the 921 deletes it because it fails to find the station. Good new is that Enterprise is coming. Don't know about HD.

KPTV Fox-12 (DTV 30) in Portland, OR suffers the same problem. It also sends no PSIP, and as such is not remapped to 12. I tried adding that channel 30+ times in a row to no effect, with at least 100+ signal constantly. Fortunately, I never had any problems with any of the other locals.
KBHK in the Bay Area must have changed something in April as that's when I was suddenly able to add it to my 921. It appears to be related to missing PSIP information but they still don't appear to be sending it although the station can now be added. I spoke with an engineer there and made him aware of the problem so perhaps they changed something in their signal or maybe they installed their PSIP generator as he told me they were going to do even though I don't see their call letters being transmitted or their digital channel number remapped to their analog channel number as most stations do. I will make a follow-up call and report back if I learn anything meaningful.
