Dish Network Mail?

I have read in a few threads that members are able to receive mail on there dish network receiver. How do you get this feature to work? Do you need to keep a phone line connected or does it download to the receiver like a software update?

The mail feature is one that Dish has had in just about every receiver for their use to send you a message. I've never seen it used either. It's not an email feature.

The DISHPlayer 7100 used to have a message feature and they used it at least once. Otherwise, I have never seen a "mail" message in 5 1/2 years as a subscriber with many different models of receivers.

Dittto to what John said. I've had Dish since May '97 and only once seen a message. It was on the 7200.

I have. A few months back my wife was paying bills ahead of time so that we didn't have to worry about anything lapsing while on vacation...Well the jist of it is she paid the E* bill from what what on the customer service screen of Dish Home and it wasn't all there. The bill ended up being paid short. When we got back from vacation my 301's email box had a message in it stating our account was past due. The message told us to go to customer service in Dish Home and make a payment which we did, kinda cool. It would be a nicer feature if it was used for anything other than to tell you that you payment was short.

Jason that was part of the interactive programming feature of DISH HOME. The mail feature is still on the menus but isn't supported or used they don't have memory capacity on most older receivers to make use of it.

Way back during one of the early Charlie Chat's, Ergen said they did not plan to use the feature because they thought it would cause more questions than it would do good.

In fact if they plan to use them like D, then I hope they never use that feature. I had D for about 15 months and got messages all the time for some stupid PPV or whatever, aka Junk Mail.

bleh! The ads appearing on my dvr are agitating enough! I do NOT want to start getting spam from DISH!
