View Full Version : Satellite and Antenna signal
I recently installed a Winegard Metrostar 2000 amplified antenna to work in conjunction with my Direct TV satellite dish. The dual LNB and the antenna leads feed into a 3 in 4 out multiswitch.
When I put the diplexer at the TV I get a reasonably good signal from the Metrostar but the satellite box loses the signal. All I get is the message "Searching for Satellite Signal".
Can someone out there tell me what I am doing wrong?

You need 2 diplexers. One to combine the satellite and OTA and one at the other end to separate them. The switch does not do this.
Where do I put the diplexer at the multiswitch? Will I need a splitter at the OTA to allow for multiple TV viewing? In other words to I need 6 diplexers to connect to three TVs with a triple splitter at the antenna?
There is a seperate input for the antenna on the multiswitch. I thought it would combine the 2 signals and all ihad to do is to use a diplexer at the TV to seperate the signals again.

The 3x4 multiswitch is made to accept an antenna or cable input on the third input. Then a diplexer is used to extract the OTA at one of the 3x4's outputs. However, the diplexer to use needs to have the Sat line pass DC and block the OTA side.
I guess I'm not technical enough to understand your response. Can you put it in simpler terms?
I am not too familiar with the Metrostar 2000 does that antenna have a powersupply to power the amplifier in the round antenna housing? If so you need a diplexer that is power passing on both sides and you can't use the antenna input on the 3 X 4 multi switch. The easiest way to use this type of antenna is to run a separate cable for the antenna.
There is an external amplifier that plugs in between the antenna and the multiswitch. I have a diplexer that power passes on both sides (Perfect Vision PVDP-2PP). It is birectional and power passes on both ports. Unfortunately running a separate cable for the antenna is not feasable because of the location of the televisions the cables run to. There just isn't an easy way to run a cable to the TV. I'll try running the antena outside the 3x4 multiplexer and see what happens. Thanks.
