Not wishful thing. :-)

Charlie said trying for NBC Olympics in HD.

The moves make one TP available for something.

Also some space generated on another TP.

So they are now compressing the HD feeds?

I don't think they are compressing the HD feeds. They can put 3 on a transponders with no compression (8psk modulation). Does anyone know if the symbol or errorfc changed?

According to the NIT, it is still SR 21500 FEC 2/3.

According to the NIT, it is still SR 21500 FEC 2/3.

Then they will have to do some compression 21500 2/3 is 38.87 mbit/sec just a tad more than 2 HDTV signals worth (average 12.95)

Interesting. Maybe they will change it shortly, if not, time to yell at Dish. I guess the 2 sharing with TNT don't have to worry too much as it doesn't seem to use much bandwidth ;)

07-21-04, 07:47 PM
So I have to have a superdish to get this? Will this probably be the case for other Filipino channels as they come available.

I found a promo for a free upgrade with 1 year commitment. Are they readily available?

Mike123abc
07-21-04, 07:50 PM
I hope they decide to turn down the FEC on the 8PSK HD channels some. I would rather have it like voom 22000 5/6 or 50.7 mbit/sec for three rather than 38.9 and have a bit more rain fade.

I just called for the superidsh promo. the csr said mabuhay was not available until tomorrow. I said thats ok, i still want the promo. he said I'd have to wait until tomorrow and get the mabuhay channel and the superdish at the same time. I cannot get it today.

22.2 on DTV UPNMichiana.com

Enough information for TNGTony to add a link on his charts. This UPN is DTV broadcast only and on every local cable system. (Pretty much using 22.2 to get the UPN signal to cable systems and digital viewers.)

BTW Tony, my condolences on yet another non-full power local being added. :D I suppose by now the rant isn't worth making. :)

Yes they did. The saw a warning slate for a while to give them a chance to choose before Dallas went dark.

Expect BravoHD and NBC-HD within the next couple of weeks .... :D

Yes as I have found out on numerous occasions, the Dish network computer cannot do things in the future. If it is not available today, you cannot sign up no matter how many announcement dish has made about something in the future. You cannot even arrange to change programming in advance with programming they already offer (like at the end of my 1 year prepay I would like to do this...).

Where did you hear that justalurker? NOTHING has been reported about Bravo HD, and this NBC HD looks like it will basically be Olympics HD since it's NOT like the local affiliates. That leads me to the question of whether it will be temporary or the format switched?

I was in Circut City Monday, wasn't paying full attention, but the Jim Lampley
Promo was talking about the Olympics in HD. Charlie's wised up to taking
advantage of Directv's holdup of HD, until they can succesfully transfer locals to the new 119 spot satellite.

I'm still fuming! It's friggin' rediculous that all these cable-only and digital sub-channels are added in these smaller markets, but a UPN station in a top 35 market with ratings better than the local PBS and sometimes the WB full-power affiliate doesn't get picked up.

Why? Because it's independently owned so there isn't a mojor network or chain of stations forcing the issue. It's funny, because there isn't a more "local" TV station on the dial!

And for those that don't know what I'm talking about, Dish Network is the ONLY multi-channel carrier in the city that does not carry WBQC-CA UPN 25 Cincinnati. DirecTV, Time-Warner, Adelphia and every other cable system in the greater Cinti area carries 25. Dish doesn't. The reason...it's a low power station. or... there's no demand for this station. or my favorite... the station decided not to participate in must carry...IT'S NOT ELIGIBLE FOR MUST CARRY MORONS!. or ... the station is demanding too much consideration (FREE CARRIAGE...FREE EQUIPMENT AT THE POP installed at the stations expense was too much expense for Dish?)

Come-on Dish...

See ya

TNT-HD has been choking up tonight. Clear Weather too.
There isn't much HD currently on ESPN-HD and TNT-HD, so I expect they'll be fine most of the the time with three channels in 38-39Mb/s. However, when those two channels are actually showing HDTV, we're going to see lots of new pixelization or filtering (what amounts to downconversion), or some combination of the two.

The amount of HDTV shown on TNT-HD and ESPN-HD will only increase with time.

If Dish Network hasn't moved to 5/6 FEC...one of their service's last remaining advantages (i.e. best HDTV quality) will be gone.

There have been a few mentions of Bravo HD, and with the Olympics on Bravo it makes the channel compelling. TVGuide channel has been playing a promo for the "seven networks of NBC" with the olympics - the NBC logo in the center and NBC HDTV logo as one of the six.

But with HDs trippling up (if I read the update correctly) there is now room for compelling channels. Why not BravoHD and NBC HD for the olympics.

NBC is basically going to be 100% Olympics anyways, so I expect their HD to follow that schedule (unless for some odd reason a prime event isn't available in HD). Nearly 24x7 Olympics with prime time after the Olympian bedtime?

BTW: I heard a rumor about South Bend channels moving to 110 (from 105) but the person I heard it from didn't know when. I'm guessing with E10. And he didn't know about "ESBT" UPNMichiana ... so perhaps his rumor stream is different than ours.

I was thinking about that empty transponder, FEC rates, etc... I wonder if Dish is going to move all the HD around. They could run the empty transponder at voom rates, move one of the triple non voom rate programming to it, then move the next... E6 and E8 are Dish's most powerful satellites, I think they are both over 240watts/transponder, they should be able to cut back on the error rate to 5/6. I wonder if they could up the symbol rate to 22,000,000 like Voom or will they have to leave it at 21,500,000.

...so I'll make it for him! :D

I just want to know why Charlie is showing prejudice against Cincinnati and Jackson, MS regarding low power UPN stations. 110 Transponder 14 only has 10 channels on it. There will only be 6 (the Jackson locals) once the Denver major nets move to the spotbeam. They could add both UPN stations if they wanted to. :nono2:

Now that they are adding low power and digital only stations left and right (including some UPN stations), E* should go back and add these stations.

The NBC HD production is separate from the NBC Analog and the other Nets.
The HD production is said to be in the area of 330 hours total.

Charlie is probably gonna lose alot of Madison, WI area customers since Directv has UPN 14 which shows alot of Wisconsin college sports which is huge in this market. Madison has always been a college town.

DISH does the same thing in the Cincinnati market. They do not carry the UPN station (it carries local sports) while DirecTV (and cable) does. It has really hurt them in this market and the local (DISH) dealers are upset about it. DISH's problem is that they do not know the local markets and don't realize how important "lesser" stations are to local viewers.

DISH does the same thing in the Cincinnati market. They do not carry the UPN station (it carries local sports) while DirecTV (and cable) does.
DirecTV is damaging themselves in the South Bend Indiana market. They are not carrying the FULL POWER LeSea broadcast station that carries local sports -- it appears that they are carrying LeSea's national "World Harvest TV" feed (which they have done as a PI for a while) but not the local CH46.

IF E* turns on all of the uplinked channels they will have *all* the SB market channels that are on the various cable stations (including 22.2 UPN Michiana) and D* will be missing full power CH46 and UPNMichiana. (IIRC, D* doesn't have SuperStations so there is no other option for UPN.)

I'm not sure E* is ready to give ConUS 110 space to "minor channels" ... that is one benefit to being on SuperDish, they have the space. It is odd that they have not bothered to wing those UPN feeds. Perhaps the dealers as well as the customers in those areas need to make it their life's work to get the signals added. Evidently E* is listening in some markets.
