View Full Version : SW44 - Dish Network
Hello All,
Can the switch SW44 be used for 4 Satellite Signals (119,110,121 & 148). I appreciate your opinion.
Thanks,
Tink

The SW44 is a Legacy Dish switch that allows 4 receivers to work with 2 sat locations. An SW64 can work with 4 receivers and 3 sat locations, and, buy using SW21s, you can use 4 sat locations. You have to add the SW21s between the receiver and the SW64(keep in mind that port 1 must have the SW21 between the receiver and the power inserter), and that the SW64 be SAT 1 on the SW21. I have successfully set this up before.

They are correct Tinker. But I believe I know why you think this. In the drawings I gave to Chris for post, there are some older drawings that illustrate a DPP44 but labels it as an SSW44. Tinker I don't believe they ever produced a SSW44...you would need a DPP44.

nippjas I am hearing that the Dpp44 won't work if you have 148 and 61.5 togather (along with 110 and 119) is this true?

This I am unsure of...But I talked to a guy running the FSS birds 110 and 119 with 61.5. Input 4 still open for future use. I don't know what the effect of combining with 148.

Why wouldnt 61.5 and 148 work together on this? Are there channels on 61.5 and 148 that have the same number that would cause it to not work?

In a word, yes. There are several channels that are mirrored on each satellite. Check the Dish Channel Chart.

Dish does not reccomend both 61.5 and 148 at the same time because of the duplicate channel numbers, but some have reported it works.

Why don't they just put the channels on a different number? They have plenty of numbers that they can use. It must be due to the fact that they like putting all the channels in the same area and there is only so much room in those particular areas to put those channels.

When I got my 6000, I only used it with a sw21 and 61.5 and 148 for about 5 months, or until they migrated stuff to the main sat. (and hdnet came onboard)so maybe it will work, I hate to be out 200$ (or more as I have legecy lnb's)and then be back to using my a-b switch

One of the main reasons that they have the 2 "wing" sats is that they really only cover part of the country. In my area, the 148 is 7 degrees elevation, so if a channel was only available on the 148, I probably wouldn't be able to get it. That's why they went with the 121, to try to eliminate the need for the wings. If I am not mistaken, E* is supposed to turn the 61.5 over to SkyAngel eventually, but I could be wrong. Voom has the same problem. On the far west coast, you have huge problems with getting it. That's why they bought the 2 west sat locations at the auction recently.

I'm pretty much centered geographically, 119/110 centered and the other 2...

E* is leasing 6 transponders on 61.5 from Sky Angel. I think it is a 10 year lease, probably 5-6 years still left on it (or if E3 fails the lease ends I think too). E* owns 11 transponders on 61.5 outright and would not have to turn them over to anyone.

I think it is more likely that they want to just have one channel listed in the guide. It would be kind of confusing to people to have to know which satellite they are looking at for different channel numbers.
