Just got a Directv system installed last week. Works great, but now I'm getting into it, I have a couple questions you guys can probably help me with.

I got a triple LNB dish installed as I may want HDTV in the future, but only have a standard programming package and receiver (Hughes) at the moment. I was looking at the signal strength display and noticed that I'm showing a signal for the 101 and 110 degree satellites, but not the 119. Is that because I am not enabled to receive anything from the 119 satellite? I only ask as , as far as I know all my current programming, including local channels, is on the 101 satellite (Philadelphia area), but I still show a signal for the 110 one - so why not the 119 satellite? I am of course wondering if my installer screwed up.

Secondly, during a heavy storm tonight I experienced my first outage. I could get all local channels, but the higher channel numbers were unavailable. Since all my current programming comes from one satellite, how does that work? Different transponders getting different signal strengths?

Thanks,

Keith

Make sure your installer set your dish setup to the oval 3 lnb dish not the 2 lnb dish.

To select dish type, go to menu, then system setup, then to Dish Type.

I guess your replies imply I should be seeing a signal on 119, and, yes, the box is set up for the 3 LNB dish, so I suppose either the tilt of the dish is wrong, or there are trees in the way of the 119 location.

Yes you should have a signal on all 3 satellites. Either the LNB for that satellite on the dish is broken or your installer did something wrong in setting up the dish, like set it up where trees are interferring or lined it up worng.

I'd call and get them to come back out and check it out. If they don't want to then call and complaind to DirectTV. They will get it fixed for you.

Yeah, it's probably install. The 2 sat setting only give 101 and 119, it skips 110. But if you are getting 101 and 110 then you probably have obstruction just to the right of your dish. The 119 is the lowest aiming part of your dish. Whatever the elevation reading on your menu, go ahead an make sure you have at least another 5-7 degrees of clearance below that on the right side( facing away from dish). if a tree or roofline is present, that would be the culprit.
