This is an excerpt from an article in USA Today about the NBC/DirecTV deal:

NBC seems to have thrown in the towel on low-rated Trio, which DirecTV reportedly wanted to drop, by leaving it out. That's significant: DirecTV accounts for about 67% of the 18 million homes the channel reaches.

"We're evaluating our options for Trio," says NBC Universal Cable President David Zaslav. He says NBC still might return to seek a carriage deal after it decides what to do with the channel. Campbell wouldn't discuss Trio.

That would suck. I love that channel. Give me more programming like that over all of these friggin' shopping networks and religious stations any day!

No more "Pink Lady and Jeff" reruns????? NOOOO!!!

Seriously, isn't TRIO just MTV for 30-somethings?

I hope not. I really enjoy the brilliant, but cancelled programs that Trio shows.

I'm surprised Trio is not in more homes. I knew Dish didn't have it, but assumed it was on a lot of cable systems.

They used to have an excellent concert series - Session on West 54th. I haven't seen it on for a while, though. I don't watch a lot of Trio, but I never like to see stations go dark.

Well that will be one less reason for me to stick with DirecTV, DISH is looking better and better, once NWI-TV is bought by Al "B"ore DirecTV won't have anything exclusive. (at least nothing worth-while anyway).

I hope they keep Trio. I did sign the petition to keep it on DirecTV.
I record quite a few concerts off there on Tivo and transfer them to DVD.
I would not be happy to see it go. There are no other channels that show concerts in their entirity.

I didn't even know the channel existed. :)
And that's probably why they are in such trouble. Nobody (in general) watches.

Considering 2/3s of Trio's potential viewers are DirecTV subscribers, if Trio were to leave D*, they better get on E* or make it more available on cable and do it quick. Trio's not a channel I particularly care for, but I know a lot of people enjoy it and request Dish carry it, but if they are removed from D* their future is bleak.

That'd be a shame. I won't put Trio among any sort of top 10, but it's definitely not among the 80% of all DirecTV's channels that I don't watch at all, ever. In the scheme of things I can't imagine bandwidth is at such a premium at the moment they'd drop it.
