I am thinking about buying a new 721 and am wondering if Dish requires a phone line to be connected to it, I already have a phone line connected to my 510, but I am putting the 721 in my den and the nearest phone jack is on the other side of the room and I don't want an ugly phone cord running along my baseboard.

My 721 experience is I have never connected a phone line. No repercussions from DISH. If you ever wish to order PPV, you will have to order on line or on the 800 number, both will add a $1 charge to your bill (total $4.99).

You don't even need a phone line connected to the 510. In the 5 1/4 years I subscribed to Dish, I had a phone line connected for about 10 secs just to order a PPV movie to see how it works, this was back when I first subscribed.

I have 3 receivers including a 721 - none of them have ever been connected to a phone line. If you do a lot of PPV movies, then you probably want to connect simply because it will save you a little on the ordering fee. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

I have a 501 and a 721, and I have no land line. When I suggested that Dish could pay for it for me to hook up the receivers to the phone, they didn't seem interested.

another question, will the receiver count as 1 receiver or 2 on my account?
