I just got a 721 and I want to purchase a UPS to protect the Hard Drive. Will a 350VA UPS will be the right choice or should I buy a 500VA

Pretty much any UPS rated for a computer will work. The main need is to condition the line voltage. In my townhouse, I have seen a lot of overspikes lately on the log. Having the power go out won't really hurt it any more than pulling the plug, but having the power flicker before the HD spins down can hurt it. I wish there was a way to set a power off on the HD in the system........

500 is a good nunber, how long of a interuption are you trying to prevent?
if the typical outage is 30 minutes or less 500 is fine, and what I am using.

Even a 350VA will be fine for most areas.
I'd say the rule of thumb would be that the 921 is equivalent to a regular PC, but you're not going to be plugging the TV into the UPS, so you will get a LOT more time than what's listed on the box.

I lugged my tv into the UPS to protect it. You should of seen the first time the power died but the tv and 721 stayerd on ... my wife freaked:) A twilight zone moment:):):)
If the powwer fails while were watching tv, I will leave the tv on for a short outage, but turn it off for longer ones. this allows a orderly shutdown of the 721 whuich is likely playing a DVR event. We watch little live tv...
