I've been monitoring the chats here sporadically, and this past weekend I finally bought a 921. I still have to run a second coax down from my Dish500 dish so that I can *use* the darn thing... but in the meantime, I thought I'd post and see what pearls of wisdom I could get from people.

What're the current bugs and workarounds I need to be watching for?

Thanks much in advance,
Hank.

PS: I read on the Dish site that I'll need to put up another dish if I want CBS in HD? Do I contact Dish to get that done, and does anyone know how much that costs?

Two big issues to watch out for:

1. OTA timers and reception continue to cause trouble.
2. The most persistent bug involves pushing the 'stop' button while watching a recorded program. This can _sometimes_ stop a recording in progress on another channel.

And, yes, you'll need another dish for CBS-HD, either aimed at 148 or 61. Worth every dime as the entire primetime lineup is in HD and a lot of sports.

#1 is no biggie, I can't pick up OTA HD from LA anyway (I'm too far north)
#2 happens sometimes on my 508 too... so I'll get just as annoyed as I do then... :)

Second dish: sigh... but I'll do it. I need to call DISH, find out how to arrange it...

I notice if I have two hd events scheduled to record at the same time on a timer I get only one recorded and the other one says the name and 0 seconds. This has happened every time on Sunday night when I try to record shows like Dead like Me and Entourage or Six feet Under. It is very repeatable. It also happens if I try to record an ota channel and an hd channel at the same time. I only get one and the other is 0 seconds.

I've had mine up and running for two weeks now and no problems at all. Its a great receiver and I love the HD.

The biggest question I have now regards the rumored to be released 924. Should I have waited?

Here's the other thread on this, with there being two major trains of thought, the "I never have any problems" and the "You will need a lot of patience, there's a lot of stuff broken". And yes, there *is* a lot of stuff broken, so don't be surprised when it fails to record something, or otherwise acts up.
