OK, I admit it - I'm a noob.
I have two 721s hooked to two separate dishes. How do I tell what dish hardware I have? Is there a guide somewhere to this info?
"Check switch" on the two machines is very different. One has 32 tests (which seems to have recently been reduced to 28 or so), the other only has 2 tests.
Also, does anybody else's 721 reboot at 4 a. m. or so every night? It seems as though every time I'm up late (or early, as the case may be :-), and the receiver is turned off, the power light on the 721 starts blinking around 4. If I catch it in time to turn on the TV, the unit is rebooting ...
Thanks for any info - all of the switch talk has made me curious.

Generally, the flashing light on the receiver at night when it's in standby mode indicates a software upgrade is taking place. After the software upgrade, the unit then reboots itself. However, if it does this every night, there may be something else involved; not sure.
The results of your "Check Switch" should actually show which switches and LNBs are present, at least to some extent. In answer to your other inquiry, it sounds as if you have both legacy and non-legacy hardware. If there are only 2-3 tests being run, the receiver is hooked up to DishPro hardware. If there is a full battery of tests being run (30+), the receiver is hooked up to legacy (non-DishPro) hardware.

My 721 does the same thing every morning at 4:00. I am always up then and I now have the habit of making sure that the unit is in standby at that time. I believe that the EPG is getting updated, it is definitely not a software upgrade since it happens every morning without fail.

Actually, the check switch screen under the sig strength will tell you what you have. If you have a DP Twin, it will be listed under the sat/all area. With an SW64, it will be listed under switch type. Have you noticed whether one seems to be working better than the other? I changed mine from a DP to an SW64 recently, and it seems to work much better now.......What the system is doing is updating the guide. It's probably set to do so at that time. Curiosity is why we are here.
