Here are woes... I'm moving in to a new house Sept 1. Can't get in to it before that date.
8/3/04 Call to Dish Newtork Customer Service. I am told I qualify for "free dish mover program" but have to go through the installer DISH chooses, I cannot schedule with a local dealer that I know (even though the dealer told me I could) . I say, okay I want to schedule it Sept 1. "Sorry, our appoinments only go up to August 31, call back tommorrow". :(
8/4/04 Tommrow arrives. 5 calls needed.
1st call. " Yes you do qualify but we cannot book installation past 8/31" I ask why, she puts me on hold while she asks.. I get a busy tone and disconnected.
2nd Call: "Yes you do qualify". I give all my info AGAIN, we don't even get to the date issue. I am placed on hold for 5 minutes. I hang up.
3rd call. All info given again, "please hold while I retrieve you account". After another five minutes on hold, I hang up again. I didnt even get in to the issue on this call.
4th Call. Person says "I'm sorry you do NOTt qualify, please give us the name of the retailer that you purchased the equipment from". I explain that I bought everything directly from DISH. That confuses the guy, he places me on hold and we get disconnected.
5th Call. "yes you DO qualify" This guy is fast at getting the info, I explain the Sept 1st problem , he says that should be no problem. He places me on hold for 2 minutes and comes back. I"m sorry we can shedule it 8/24 but after that date we have no dates until 9/19/04". Its not the the other dates are full, its simply due to the fact that those dates are not in the schedule. I say something must be possible, he says "no".
I would like not to go three weeks without DISH (no OTA TV availble). It seems that giving them a months notice of a requested date should get you closer to the preferred/requested date than three weeks AFTER it. Does anyone have suggestions?
 :nono2: :eek2:

The irony is that the DIRECT TV dealer is actually less than 75 yards away from my new location  tempting...

I bet the problem is a lot of people moving at the end of August/beginning of September for the school year and they are booking up.

Do it yourself ? Even in a new house, it shouldn't be that difficult if you plan properly..

You may not like this suggestion, but I'll make it anyway because of your current dilemma - call the cable company in your new home's area. I bet they have a great deal for new customers with FREE installation. They can hook you up for a month and than you can cancel and go back to Dish with minimal cost. Check it out. In our area they want customers so bad that they give you a great deal for the 1st 3-6 months and than jack the prices up after that. The best thing is you can cancel at any time without any penalty.

Now there's an idea...the new home IS within a cable area, a first for me.

I've installed five dishes over the years, its the getting up on the apex of a tall roof that I want to avoid. All my previous installs have been on poles. The new location is surrounded by tress with the apex of the roof as the only area with a clear line of sight.

Even if you know how to do the install you shouldn't have to, it's supposed to be included when you move. Call the cable company and see what they offer - don't tell them that you're quitting after a month, just find out the cancellation policies if you're not satisfied with the service.
Built a new house last winter, moved in March. Wanted the electricians who wired the house for DISH to do the install; I qualified for dishmover. Called DISH and had similar experience as you, except before they hung up on me they said "sorry-sir-that-is-not-poss-i-ble." Then "click." This happened about 4 times. I was willing to pay my electrician, all I wanted to do was save a few $$ on the antenna and stuff.
So their installer came and got it hooked up ok, whew. Saved me a few more $$ I suppose except the kid insisted on mounting the dish on the roof, a nice brand new roof. So far, so good.

Well, maybe an email to ceo@dishnetwork.com - copy your original post into it.
Tell them it's utterly frelling ridiculous, and that you expect an installation with GOOD installers on Sept. 1st, or you will walk across the street to the D* dealer.
If convenient, maybe attach a little video showing you standing at your new house, and then point to the D* store and pan over to it. :D

I'd say that the problem is that you called dish directly. Go to the local dealer and ask him to set you up on a dishmover claim and set the install date and time. Retailers have much more flxibilty that dish since dish just punches you into a computer and it spits out a date. Any retailer can do a mover, the original is not required.
I've found that calling dish is a waste of time for most of my customers. 5 minutes on the phone, and most problems solved, where dish has them for 1/2 hours and tells them crap like must not be grounded or bad part. Like they can tell over the phone. Utter waste of time to call dish directly.

Larry, I did do this...sort of. I spoke to a local dealer first, he said he would be happy to do it under the Dish Mover program....IF I was qualified. He told me to call Dish to find out . I did this dut DISH said I could NOT use my local dealer , it HAD to be someone DISH sent out. I have another call in to my dealer though. :nono2:

Any sub should qualify for the dishmover as long as your account is active. If you sign up for 1 year, and have Credit Card Autopay, it is free. Without CCA, it's a $24.95 fee paid at the time of the new install. This is one thing that any retailer can setup for you, you don't need the original retailer of record.

The retailers can do a Dish Mover's program using a Dish500 but not with a SuperDish. If you want a SuperDish Dish Mover's program you have to get it installed directly from Dish Network.

WHat if they bring the dish? Have yet to have to do an SD Mover yet, so I wasn't aware of that restriction. I do know that you have to bring your switch if you have more than 2 recs, or you have to buy a new one.
From the DishMover Business Rules for retailers:DISH Mover Program:
Participating retailers may install a DISH 500 or SuperDISH antenna (one antenna) and up to two (2) receivers between August 1, 2004 and October 31, 2004 for any existing DISH Network customer who is moving or relocating in the continental United States. Customers who are currently subject to a programming purchase commitment under a different promotional program are eligible for the Free DISH Mover option (as described below). When this occurs, both programming purchase commitments will run at the same time (concurrently).
Call your local guy back and ask him if he really wants the job. If you qualify, you qualify.
That being said, DishMover jobs can be a lot of work for break-even economics or even a slight loss. So local dealers can be very picky about which jobs, if any, they will take...especially if you were not their customer in the first place.
You certainly will have to pay extra if you have more than 2 receivers. Many retailer/installers will charge extra for 2. (Their payment from DISH is no more than they normally get for a single-receiver new customer.)

I was under the impression that Dish would pay to have all the receviers installed, but not the switch if it was needed. I will have to reread the rules on that one. The guy I just recently quit working for never had a problem getting paid for any conifg. We just always made sure that they had the switch.

I did that ... he decided to do it and push DISH himself rather than have me do the arguing. I'm set for a 2 receiver install on my requested date. Dish will allow the Dish Mover install for TWO receivers, maximum.

That's odd, because the guy I worked for wouldn't have done it if he wasn't getting paid for it. And I had done several 3-4 receiver movers for him.
When I called about dishmover about a month ago, I was on hold for about 10 minutes, then got to speak to someone. I had a Dish 500, one at 61.5, and one at 148, plus an sw64, 921, 811, and 7200. The woman told me they'd give me a Superdish so I could get my locals, but no 61.5. Then I was put on hold and disconnected. I didn't call back and just did it myself.

I got paid to install mine, so I understand your point. On more complicated setups, you may be better of doing that, especially if you did some of the work yourself. Or at least be there to help the installer. I don't mind help if the person knows what they are doing.

I guess I will give you a different view of the dish-mover program. Called Dish. Set up a time for two weeks in the future when I would be moving into my new house. Since I qualified, didn't have to pay anything nor commit to anything(still pay monthly by check). Took less than 15 minutes on the phone.
They showed up on the day and time frame specified and left that evening with both of my receivers working. Can't complain about anything with the Dish-mover program for me. Guess not everyone gets the run-around.
Of course my movers are another story since they took both of my smart cards but that is another story....
