I work in a place that has a large campus. In that campus there are pay phones which are to be used in place of your desk phone when making personal calls. While walking down the hall this morning one of them was ringing. i let it ring a few times before walking over to pick it up. I grabbed the handset and said in a goofy voice "heellloooooo?" the voiceo n theo ther line was a woman trying to sell Dish Network service. I said "you're calling a pay phone". Her response was "Yes, I know. What satellite or cable service do you use at home?". I hung up because i detest telemarketing. But I just thought it was strange that I guess they are deliberately calling payphones in hopes of finding that adventurous soul who actually answers one (about 30 people walked by it without answering)

Moral -- don't answer pay phones unless you're expecting a call on one :rolling:
Seriously, though - it could have been a telemarketer hired by a retailer. Dish, Directv and the cable companies all do a certain amount of blind telemarketing Pain in the butt.

Heck you should have told them yes you want to know more about dish. I like to see how long I can keep them on the phone. It keeps them (telemarketers) from calling others. I figure if they want to waste my time, I will waste theirs. I've kept them on the phone for over an hour. They get really mad when you tell them "Never mind, I just want to ruin your call stats!"

Orcatek - that's great! Love it!

Kind of a shame, tho. After all that poor SOB that's calling is just trying to make a living - they even know how much they're hated - most of them really do NOT like their job, it's just all they've got.

I'm always polite. I tell them "I'm sorry, not interetsed", ask them not to call me again, and hang up.

That do not call list is great though. Combined with Anonymous Call Rejection, it's the cat's pajamas.

yeah i have not received a telemarketing call at home for at least a year! i understand how much it sucks to be a telemarketer. I was one once. for a couple months anyway. And yeah I didn't like getting hung up on, but I got used to it by the second day.

also, i would have kept her on the phone for a long time had I not been at work at the time :(

Here's a strange one for you, I received a telemarketing call from a company wanting to sell me Dish Network. The funny thing is at the time I received the call I was a Dish Network subscriber for about a year and a half. The annoying part was the call was an automated call, I hate those, They left a call back number to call if you were interested in Dish network. I called the number and told them that I already subscribe to Dish and had been a sub for over a year and a half and it seems a little silly to call someone who is already a subscriber. They did take my name off the list. Has anyone Else received calls like this? The person on the recording says they are a "local" dish installer and got your number from "a friend" who's said you might be interested in Dish Network. I received this call about two years ago. We would also get them on the request lines at work.

I hate that too zman977. We do a call-in show every morning for about 30 minutes where people can sell stuff on our tiny AM station. Nothing like messing around with the telemarketing people live on the air.

My fav to the telemarketers is when they ask for Mr. so and so I say sure one minute, set the phone on the counter and go watch TV. Some of them sit there for quite a while. Sorry but I hate telemarketers.

I get that call just about every Saturday at aprox 1300. I'm just starting my 4th year as an E* subscriber.

As an aside, what is up with the whole "marketing" with dish anyway? From the 522 that I can't buy to all of thier other troubles, it's a wonder the birds are not dropping out of the sky!!

That's because Dish doesn't make the satellites.
