So today I had to take down my Dish 500 (dish pro) for I could do a little work on the house...
And now for the life of me I cannot get the thing pointed again. I have gotten the following:
1. The 110 sat comes in clear at a signal strength of 115... but the 119 does not come in.
2. The 110 sat comes in but the pointing screen shows Wrong sat (119 West).
3. When I run a check switch, it seems to think I have no switch installed.
4. I have not been able to get the 119 satillite to show any signal strength.
Any ideas what is going on?
I checked the mount and it is plumb...
BTW, Receiver is a 508.
Thanks.

Sounds like you are too high or too low. I have hit the 110 with the the 119 port before and had the same problem. Depending on where you are, you need to adjust your dish. If you are hitting the 110 on the 119, then the 110 will show up on the #2 spot, and the #1 will be XXX. That means you are probablu hitting the DTV 101, which dish can't use. Good luck.

You will want to double check your elevation and your skew, based on your geographical location. That will help eliminate problems with being too high, too low, or only being able to find one satellite. Then, when you sweep the dish side to side, you want to try and avoid the "Wrong Sat" problem, which is (as noted above), where you wind up picking up the wrong satellite on the wrong "head" of the DishPro Twin.

It's NOT elevation causing this problem - and you probably didn't loosen the elevation adjustment when you took it down, so it should be fine.

It's almost certainly nothing more than the dish being 9 degrees too far east, and the 119 LNBF is picking up the 110 satellite. A quick twist twards the west should solve the problem.

To make sure you're getting it right, cover the 110 "eye" with tin foil, and rotate the dish left until you find 119. Then, uncover and 110 should magically appear. :)

Don't forget to run Check Switch when you've got it aimed just to settle things in correctly.

Thanks for the help... I screwed around with it a bit more, tighened the mount... made sure it was plumb and that the elevation and skew were set correctly, and it still didn't work. Tried the foil on the 110 LNB, and it worked great! Found 119 and then uncover, and 110 locked. Again thanks for the help.

Don't you mean that "tin foiled" man? ;-)

I forgot to ask which port you were using. Keep in mind that port one under the 119 eye is for the 119, and port 2 is for the 110.

 Which is why I always say to cover the 110 LNBF - what I forgot to tell him was what to do if he lost signal when he covered it. Fortunately, I was on the money anyway. :D

That's why I allways use a single LNB with old satfinders. My DIgisat3 will see the switch and can swap back and forth without changing ports.
