Sorry to reply in a different thread, but I don't want to break Mark's rules...

One thing that did catch my attention is that for the first time I can recall is that they admitted working on a content protected way to do hard drive expansion on the DVR. In the past they just stated it could not be done, That hasn't changed but at least now we know somewhere in their advanced R&D group someone is working on a way to do this.

I seem to remember it being mentioned that the USB port on the 921 is 1.0. That'll never handle an external hard drive, and since the firewire ports are now covered.... Maybe we'll see expandable space on the 942, but they've been taunting us with an expansion port since the 501.

I liked how they initially referred to as favorites support for OTA as a new feature.

Anyone remember what was mentioned for each new software version?

L187, Wednesday. Missed Timer and OTA Fixes.

Later August Release?

September Release - OTA guide data.

Named based recording -> way out there. Sounds like the flagship box will be the last to get it. Interesting that they hinted at one of the first to get NBR would be an "upcoming" HD receiver.

They also mention two different dates for the upcoming HD DVR receiver during two different segments of the chat, one in the Fall, and one for early next year.

Either there are two new HD DVR's coming, or they have no idea what they're talking about. Anybody wanna bet on the correct answer?

The 942 would be one of them but I have no idea about a new hd receiver other than that one.

They haven't even got all the bugs out of the existing hd receivers yet. Can't we for once ,fix them before we spread our resources so thin on new hd receivers? They should be concentrating ALL Resources on the 921 and the 811 so they work properly by this fall in time for X-mas shopping season. They missed the boat on last years season and both receivers were on the market . They weren't wide spread available but they were on the market. The 18 month time frame to get a dvr receiver stable is a little to long. They should work properly either on release or within 6 months from debut. By 18 months they have already discontinued it and are on to the next new version which doesn't work properly.

Just bite the bullet and BUY TIVO Charlie!! You could be light years ahead of where you are now if you would just pay for the license and you could be getting the revenue from the existing Tivo subs and even Directivo subs. Thank about it .:)

Perhaps they'll market a lower cost HD-PVR (1 sat tuner, smaller hard drive...)
I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of boxes coming. But, if they say early next year, it might show up by the following Christmas.

Considering that most 921 development is taking place in Europe, I doubt the new boxs are affecting the 921. If they waited till a box was bug free before releasing another, it would be 4 years between boxes.
