I got my weekly Comcrud flier in the mail today, with a photo of a harried man and a static TV behind him, titled "Fed up with the dish?". (Why would Dish suddenly go out like that? But I digress.)
Anyway, in its third bullet point advertising the cool features it provides, Comcrud sang the praises of its TV Guide channel, which lets cable subs see what's on TV on dozens of channels.
IMHO, this is the real value (besides the lawsuit-settling thing) of Dish having the TV Guide channel. When Grandma checks channel-by-channel whether the newfangled Dish will provide everything she's used to, she may skip past this "program guide" stuff if it's not TV Guide(R). I figure that if Dish really didn't want to carry the channel, it could have paid a little more to settle without it.
Or maybe it's just an indictment of the poor state of cable that Comcrud feels obligated to go so quickly to TV Guide when trying to think of positive things to say.
