Hello, I am about to get on board with direct TV and canceling my cable. I am interested in having 2 dvr's so that my wife and I can record on our TV and kids can record on their TV (kids not allowed to watch until 7 PM on school nights). I have been told that you cannot record in one room and watch the recording in another room. Is having 2 DVR's the best way to solve this?
Thanks for any help. ES

Welcome to DBSTalk Edso :hi:

Yes, if you want to watch the main TV, while the Kids are watching something on theirs, you need two receivers. It doesn't matter if the programming is live or recorded. If only one TV is being watched at a time, then really you only need one receiver. Just hook up the receiver up to one TV with composite or Svideo, and run a line of RF coax to the other TV and tune in via channel 3/4. If you go this route, there is a good chance you'll need to by those cones from RadioShack for the remote, since the DTiVo remote is IR not UHF.

Hey Ed,

If you have a Circuit City nearby, you might check their prices. I just bought two DirecTivo receivers for $50 + tax each ($99 - $50 new customer rebate). I was reading many forums and expected to pay $80 + tax for one. I thought $20 more to get 2 was a deal I couldn't pass up.

Good luck,
Neal
