When I programmed my DTIVO remote to control my TV and my home theatre system, it works well for the most part except the mute does not work.
I followed directions from the manual. The same steps that allows the remote to control the audio of the HTS should also activate the mute, but it doesn't. Any ideas or suggestion?

It's probably the audio code itself, not the programming of it. Have you tried all codes for your brand of audio receiver? To progrm the tivo remote you need to do three steps:

1. press and hold TV POWER & TIVO, enter the TV code

2. press and hold MUTE & TIVO, enter the audio code

3. press and hold TV POWER & TIVO, enter the audio code again.

If you go to DirecTV Central->Messages & Setup->Recorder Setup->Remote Control Setup, there's on screen instructions and codes. I didn't even know the codes were listed in the manual as well.

Make sure you program the TV codes first then the home theater receiver. If you do it the opposite way the mute and volume buttons will control the TV not your audio receiver.

If you get frustrated trying to get the Tivo remote to operate a home theater system then spend $18 and try a URC-6131 remote. Cheap and does the job.
