 My DVD player has a connector on the back that says digital out and it has a little plug in it. If I pull out the plug I can see a tiny red light inside. Can someone tell me what this is for. Does it have anything to do with hooking up a HD TV adapter?

That is an optical output used to connect your DVD player to a home theater receivers optical input via fiber optic cable. It is for Dolby Digital and DTS digital surround sound. You might also have a digital coax out, which serves the same purpose.
