Signing up - Equip Questions

First, thank you for the forum and your participation, it is very informative and appreciated. I have had it with my local cable provider and am signing up and will choose the Directtv tivo option. Are there recommendations regarding which unit, Samsung, RCA or Hughes, to get? Is there a feature list or are they all the same "on the inside." Reliability ratings? Other features or dislikes?

Also, I read alot where live viewing with the guide on a tivo is slow compared to the "regular" guide and some say to use the direct tv guide. Is this selectable? Thanks for any advice before plunking down the bucks!

You'll find that all DTiVos are the same on the inside, with the exception of the size of the harddrive. I believe that they are all manufactured in only 2 locations and the only difference is the name on the outside.

The DTiVo guide has 2 different styles. If you are used to any other box, the grid guide is painfully slow. The consensus is that the TiVo guide is much faster.

I lied, prob not my last question, but I'll ask anyway.... if there are no differences in the unit, does this mean there are no differences in the remote? Thx again

yeah the remotes are all the same. sntandard tivo peanut. actually not quite standard. directv logo instead of tivo logo. and they have a list button that goes straight to the now-playing list instead of hitting tivo/directv twice.

I thought I heard that some models had a grey remote, and others (like my Hughes) were black. The faceplates of different brands have slightly different styling, too.
