I recently purchased a Philips DSR704, and I have a question about the true capacity. The literature says is records up to 35 hours.

What I have experienced is that once I have about 15-20 hours fo shows recorded, and I try to schedule new shows, the system tells me it will start to erase the other shows earlier than scheduled. It seems like the system will not go over about 20 hours of recorded programs.

Does this sound right? It is becoming increasingly frustratin with the Olympics, I cannot record everything I would like.

Also, considering doing one of the upgrades. I am good with computers, not not sure I want to go through the hassel, So, I'll probably go with a pre-packacged hard-drive add-on. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

The TiVo software tries to determine what will record in the next few days when making these determinations. If, for instance, you have 20 hours recorded and another 15 set up in the next few days, it assumes you will not delete anything and that it will be out of space and starts to give you the recordings may be deleted deal. If you know that you will clear 15 hours in the same few days, you have no problem since you will still be at 20 and can just click OK on the message. Remember, it is not saying things will be deleted, just that they may be.

I used the MFSTools CD and upgraded my SD DVR40 myself but I know many people have used the pre-packaged HD kits from Weaknees and PTVUpgrade.com with plenty of success.
