7100/7200 receivers were the first PVR's from E*. Other than name based recording I really don't see why people would prefer this to the more recent PVR's (I don't miss my 7100). I have a 508 and 721 and prefer these over the 7100. The other BIG problem with the 7100/7200 is the monthly fee for PVR use - it's $9.99 per month unless you can get E* waive it - I never did and I had it for 5 years (I didn't check in the last two years of use). The 501/508/721 are all free of the monthly fee. I guess the ONLY other advantage I can see with the 7100/7200 is that they're cheaper than the more recent PVR's (selling for $100-$150 on e-bay vs $150-$200 for the 501). I couldn't recommend someone purchase the 7100/7200 over the newer PVR's though unless they have to have a wireless keyboard and named based recording.

ya..but tivo's recording quality is a question for me since I have heard that if u use it with e* equipment and such sources, there is degradation in quality. For that matter I consider even Dish's video quality of their 'digital' channels decent. Having a 60'' TV is not that fun on SD. Love the big screen for HD stuff though.
