I have been waiting over a year for my locals and now that 7s is up what is the deal??? It still says waiting to verify equipment on the web page. Anyone know of a time frame when cities on the "locals in 2004" list are going to actually get them?

It appears your locals (like mine) will be served from the 72.5 degree location. Now that D* has received approval from the FCC to move it's old 119 satellite to 72.5, in one instance D* has mentioned October 2004 availability. (And with any satellite operation, if the satellite fails during or after the move, than no locals until the next D* sat launch)
Of course you will have to get your equipment upgraded, and 72.5 will require an additional 18" dish pointed at the new location.
It also appears that only the receivers with a "DIRECTV® Multi-Satellite Receiver with APG." Which I think means that all receivers need to have the 14 day guide (I do not think the guide is the requirement, but all of those receivers also support a more advanced multiswitch which may be needed for these additional slots). D* has a pretty good track record of giving the equipment needed for locals, but you may have to have to request it and it has to be installed before you could watch the locals.
Since 72.5 is much further east than the other D* satellites, make sure you have a decent view to the south east. It will also appear lower in the sky than 101. (Although some Dish customers in Oregon can get the even more easterly 61.5) It is kinda odd that D* chose Boise for 72.5 usage.

I can't believe D* is going to require another satellite. Maybe I will just switch to Dish, which has had locals here for a while.

I have been waiting over a year for my locals and now that 7s is up what is the deal???You have not been waiting for over a year.

DirecTV's press release (http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20040108005276&newsLang=en) about the Boise locals was issued 8 January, 2004. You have been waiting for slightly over seven months.I can't believe D* is going to require another satellite. Maybe I will just switch to Dish, which has had locals here for a while. From the exact same press release:To provide capacity for the new markets, upon authorization from the Federal Communications Commission, the DIRECTV 5 satellite will be moved into the Telesat-controlled orbital location of 72.5 degrees. Customers in these new markets, with the exception of Springfield-Holyoke, Mass., will be required to use a second 18-inch satellite dish to receive their local channels.Anyone know of a time frame when cities on the "locals in 2004" list are going to actually get them? This DirecTV press release (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/aboutus/headline.dsp?id=08_13_2004A) gives the timeline:DIRECTV today offers local broadcast channels in 106 designated market areas, and will begin the rollout of local channel service in these additional 24 markets in late September and complete the rollout of local channel service in all 24 markets by early October.
