View Full Version : Urgent: Need SHVIRA Update
I am going to breakfast in ten hours with Senator Allen (VA) from the Senate Commerce Committee. I will also be meeting with Congressman Goode (VA-5) on Saturday afternoon.
Can someone update me with the latest on SHVIRA and related legislation?
What should I ask them to fight for in the pending legislation?
This is a chance for our collective voice to be heard, so please let me know.
The legislation looks good now, just gotta get them to pass it

There are 3 versions now. So saying it looks good now does not help much.
I would ask that satellite be treated like cable in terms of significantly viewed provisions. Extending distant net grandfathering and allowing waivers sounds good to me as well.
In other words allowing people in DC to see Baltimore stations. I would also ask that the superstatison be allowed to continue as is.
If you want a real wish lsit item how about stopping cable owned RSNs from refusing to sell their RSN to satellite.

The provision, that would allow satellite to provide HD networks to any areas, where the local broadcasters do not, must be included. That is the single most important thing, for those that do not live in the large cities.

The significantly viewed provision is very important to some of us. Satellite companies should be allowed to offer the same services as cable.

Significant'y viewed my ASS!
If a station is predicted to send a grade B signal to a customer, that customer should be allowed to buy that TV station via satellite no matter what the DMA bounderies. That is on top of the local DMA as well.
If a station can deny you distant networks, then the customer out to be able to buy that station via satellite no matter what the DMA designation!
If a station provides a "good quality" signal to the city limits of the "central" (Named) city in a DMA via conventional antenna reception, then that station should be carried in that market. (DC & Baltimore, Toledo & Detroit, Cincinnat & Dayton, Cleveland & Youngstown)
Or any combination of the above!
Basically, if I can pick it up via antenna at home, there should be no reason why the satellite company cannot sell it to be via satellite!
