A recent development of my 522, and I don't think it is software related. Watching live TV is fine. But if I rewind a bit, no matter by how much, on playback the video will do small freezes/jumps and there are audio glitches and dropouts. Similar to dropout on digital audio tape, if anyone knows those. Also, programs I have been recording lately have been recording with these defects as well. Shows I recorded before this problem arose still have no glitches at all.
I've tried everything I can think of. Soft resets, hard resets. Is it a hard drive problem, like it's too fragmented or something? Is it because the new software has the 522 recording constantly, even when the unit is in standby mode, and therefore is overtaxing the drive?
Any help appreciated.

I think this is one of the new features of the latest software versions. I get the same thing from time to time. It lasts five minutes or so and almost goes away for a while.

It sounds like he needs to drop the "ping out" from the subject line.

They all do it. They say that software upgrades may fix it.

Ditto with my 522. It just started happening a couple weeks ago. So far I'm not impressed with their DVR.

It never happened with V1.69 but as soon as 2.01 came out it's been hosed ever since. With all the updates since then you would think that they would have addressed it but obviously not.
I have not yet experienced it with recorded shows but here is what I have learned, anytime I play back by pausing or rewinding it drops out with audio loss and skips. This also sometimes causes the audio to go out of sync, as if the skips actually make it go out of sync. However, if I record a show directly that I haven't rewinded or paused and then recorded, it will record properly with no skips.

I have been installing for DNSC for about 3.5 years now, and over the last year or two, they have come out with so many new receivers, I don't think they are taking the time to full test them before releasing them to the general public. And I say this with certainty. I have had just about every receiver active in my home that dish network has ever come out with, and while they were all made and done with the good intentions of giving us something better, well lets just say good intentions go south usually quicker than you a guy can get a hard on for an hot naked woman. That being said let me just give you a few things to watch out for before getting into that 522 dual tuner satellite recording receiver..............I purchased mine 3 days after my local retailer got them in stock, back in late February of 2004. WOOHOO, i was excited then (now wish I had saved my money) ((Non-DHA, had to purchase it if I wanted it, and YES you can have them without leasing them)) 1.5 months after having it, had several, several one time shows, and lots of PPV events that I had not watched as of yet, I am used to DNSC's receiver, a front panel reset fixes 90% of the problems 80% of the time, well, not this time. It took the receiver about 5-10 minutes to power back on, but it did, did it's song and dance, and everything was working on the surface. About 2 days later, I had some timers that were suppose to have recorded, but hadn't, checked the time list nothing there. Just fiddling with different menu features, seeing if some new or old software that I might not know about, everything looked good. Well maybe they recorded and the timers just got erased. OH SH*T there is not one recorded event in the section. Called dish, and after 2 days and maybe 10 hours of b****ing they comped have the PPV's. Receiver never did it again, don't know what happened??? Well since that date, I have had signal degradation problems, and I have a SW34 switch installed with three sat. dishes outside picking up separately the 119, 110, and 61.5, all of them using 500 dishes, (and no there are no trees LOL) but signal still go blocky due to the digital signal breaking down. About once every week or so, sometimes twice when I press the guide button the receiver does a reset the same as if I had done a front panel reset, but only by pushing guide, and it is not remote specific. caller ID i have never had a problem with on mine, but like I said I install these for a living, and about 40% of the units I install (those with the caller ID feature) work half the time. I have replaced about 8 of these 522 dvrs due to hard drive failures, error #044e. I just RA'd mine the other day, and they had the nerve to tell me that it nothing was found wrong with it I would be charged for the replacement unit. And in the same breath the woman told me that if the receiver is not acting up when the techies get it, they immediately box it up reissue the numbers and ship it out to someone else. So I would say in short, but if you have read all this, you know that is a crock of sh*t, don't go into a lease under the DHA and get the 522 receiver, don't even buy them outright to have one cause they are cool. (and don't let them tell you that you can't add it to your account because you are not all high and mighty DHA material, because I have one and I am not.)
