AskDBS: Lost all recorded programs. #&%$#*#@

Last Night, (Monday), I went to watch one of about 8 programs I had recorded and they were all gone! :mad: This has never happened before. I had recorded these over the last 3 weeks and because of other commitments wasn’t able to view them until last night. As of last Friday, they were all there because I had successfully recorded Stargate off the SciFi channel. The only possible cause that I can think of was a thunder storm that hit on Saturday. The digital clocks were blinking and as near as I could tell we had lost power for about an hour and were not at home at the time. The 921 was plugged into a surge protector but wasn’t powered up as I usually turn it off if we are not at home and I don’t have anything planned to record. The only thing I can think of is during the power reboot, the data was lost. That really sucks. I lost some shows and episodes that aren’t coming on again. As near as I can tell it was the only area affected.
Has anyone else ever seen this happen?

I've never (knocking on wood) had this happen with my 921, but my 501 has done it. Real pisser when it happens, and it's only due to the second-rate software. I can see losing one recording due to a glitch, but not all of them - not even if the recorded events database gets hit - a recovery routine could be written to handle that. :(

Anyway, list the shows/episodes you lost and some of us might be able to help you out. :) (Thanks again David!!!)

I don't know how you could help but here goes: The "American Idol" final night (I hadn't erased),The last episode of "Summerland" on OTA WB, Last 3 episodes of "Six Feet Under", Last Fridays "Sargate SG1" and "Stargate Atlantis" off SciFi and "Havana" off Showtime. I was able to re-record Havana.

Actually, that's a good point. It's kind of unlikely that the DVR spontaneously reformatted the HDD. Seems like there should be a "Repair Databases" option in the Diagnostics menu...
