With the fall season quickly approaching, I'm not sure if 35 hours will be enough. We have two DirecTivos, if I connect them both to our main tv, will I need four cables for them both to work correctly, or can the two DirecTivos be connected together and use the 2 cables that currently run to DirecTivo already there.

I think you need to have all four cables to have all the tuners enabled. I dont know of anyway to connect them together. If you are doing it just for the hard drive space you could just plug one input to each one if you don't think you will have more than two things recording at once. If you want to have four things recording at once yo-u will have to run the extra lines. You could also look into adding a larger harddrive to the tivo you have or upgrading to a larger capacity one

If you only have the round 18" single LNB dish, then you could prossibly use a multiswitch on the 2 incomming feeds behind the TV to feed all 4 tuners of the D* Tivo.
If you have a multisat dish, then you would be out of luck.
If you are only concerned about the 35 hour limitation, then a hard drive upgrade would be much easier than running more wires: http://www.weaknees.com/ makes some accessories to make the upgrade easier.
