Regarding BUG REPORT L187: Signal strength tone way too loud.
I like it where it's at - or even louder!
Why? Because I can always lower the volume, but raising it so it can be heard while I'm adjusting the dish 70 feet away would become a problem.
It WOULD be nice if the tone was always there. Seems like somewhere in one of the recent releases it developed a problem that other(s) have reported.

There is not enough gain on your system to play normal level material at a loud enough volume?
My speakers were too expensive to put them at risk playing tones at extreme volume levels. If you need an extra 26 dB of level from the 921 to get the volume you want, you are asking for trouble.
Assume that the 26 dB extra level is accurate for the moment. If your speakers were being feed a voltage that gave an average power usage of one watt (fairly loud with most speakers), switching to a sine wave of 26 dB greater level would be a power usage of about 400 watts. That is way too dangerous both to my ears and my speakers, especially if I am not expecting it.

The tone volume should be equal to the rest of the audio db. Turning up the volume control on the monitor/TV should work just fine.

Well, it may be due to my digital connection, speaker setup, or whatever, but I've got to crank my amplifier (Sony STR-DE695) all the way up in order to get enough volume.
Would the amp still provide the same amount of volume with a lower input? Doubt it, but maybe there's something in the amp that makes it act that way. I'm no expert on sound equipment that's for sure.

How about on normal program material? I assume you do not have to crank the volume all the way up for normal listening?
Remember my complaint of too much level is with the analog outputs. Maybe the digital audio output level is more reasonable. Is someone with both outputs available willing to compare?

It's hard for me to do an apples to apples comparison because my analog output is not routed to my receiver, just to a VCR and then direct to TV.
For PCM digital, I run about 45/74ths (weird that 74 is max, but it is). For DD I've got to go 60/74ths. I do NOT have to make any changes when changing among 921 PCM, DVD, or radio. Of course, this receiver seems to be a lot smarter than I am, so who knows what it's doing to attenuate/pre-amp the inputs to keep them in line.
As for the TV, 40% is about right with normal content.
