I have an old Dish Network 3900 receiver which I would like to use with my existing setup. I am using DishPro 34 switch w/ 721 and 311 receiver. I know the satellite Dishes (61.5, 110 and 119) are pointing to the correct direction as I am getting signals/all channels on 721 and 311 receivers.

3900 receiver has blue card which says: 100908 Rev AA
Software version: P231CLGD-N
Dish500 Card Ready: DNASP010 Rev A23
Bootstrap Version: 11ABCLGD

When I do the check switch, it does not detect the DishPro 34 switch, neither does it detect 119 and 61.5 satellite. For some reason, it detects 110 (with good signals) and I get some free channels as well, along with the DishNetwork info channel.

I tried leaving it off (plugged in) for a night and booted. Even unplugged it for an hour and plugged it back in, removed the blue card and inserted it back in, but it didn't help.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Salman

I used to use the 3800 and 3900(same thing except P230 upped the nomenclature from 3800 to 3900)..Is it the Philips or JVC unit...?

Well any ways you need to use a DishPro adapter when interfacing this Legacy receiver to a DishPro equipped Dish. If you are using a DP adapter and still getting this I have some work arounds for you.

I was in the same situation. I decided against the adaptor and bought a 301 on e-bay. You can get a 301 for around $50 plus shipping and you'll have a richer feature set than the 3900.

With the current bugs in the existing 301 software rev... I'd advise against this...P231 stabilized the 3900 pretty good...I did an express exchange on my 3800 and 3900 for 301's thru E*...Cost me like $69 each...I'd recommend grabbing a 311 instead or waiting until the 301's software is corrected.

Just my .02,

Either get a 311 or a dp adapter. I'd recommend the 311. I ditched my 301 due to bad bad bugs that cropped up with p226. Avoid the 301's right now! The 311 is a solid piece of equipment, mine is running like a champ (so to speak).

Depending on his account status...with the additional outlet fee he could probably get the DP Adapter gratis.

First of all, thank you everybody for your response.

I am not using any Dishpro (adapter) with my 3900 receiver. There are two dishes, One for 61.5 and other for 110 and 119. They are DishPro dishes & LNBs. There is a switch connected to it, DP34. Then I have my three receivers connected. 712 and 311 are working great. 3900 is having problem (not recognising the switch). I didn't see JVC or Philips on the front but it says ECHOSTAR on the smart card door. It also says something like "DV3" or "DVB" (these letters are attached and it's hard to tell what it exactly says). MPEG 2 is also imprinted on the front. I hope this helps. What kind of DP adapter I would need and where can I get it?
Thanks a bunch!!

All I want from this receiver is to get the local channels. Do we receive local channels through 110 or 119? Because, I do get 110 signal but not 119's.
Thanks

The Dish Pro adapter part number 111690 is available from DISH or your dealer MSRP is $69.00. There is only one model for all non Dish Pro receivers.

Your 3900 is NOT going to work properly until you get that DishPro adaptor that boba listed.

Salman:

The 3900 will not properly recognize ANY DP stuff. The 3900 uses legacy stuff, while the new DP receivers, the 3 digit ones, will work with the legacy OR the new style DP setup. Unfortunatley, only a DP+44 switch would work correctly with the 3900 since it has the DP adapter built into it with your setup. So, like it was said before:

1. Get a DP Adapter
2. Replace the 3900 with a 3 digit box
3. Replace the DP34 with a DP+44.

Good luck.
