Those in Philly will now begin to get TBN Programming...

PHILADELPHIA'S WGTW CHANNEL 48 SOLD TO RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION, ALL WRESTLING PROGRAMMING TO DEPART STATION AT END OF THE MONTH
by Mike Johnson @ 3:30:00 PM on 9/6/2004

Philadelphia, PA's WGTW channel 48 has been purchased by religious organization the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The Network's programming will take over the station as of 9/30, effectively ending the long-running tradition of professional wrestling on the station.

Extreme Championship Wrestling debuted on WGTW in 1997 after the promotion lost its slot on Sportschannel Philadelphia when that station shut down, running until late 2000 when the promotion ended its "Hardcore TV" just before ECW suspended operations in early 2001.

Combat Zone Wrestling debuted on the station in 2001, leading to the promotion's biggest house ever the Cage of Death 3 in December 2001 which saw the company draw 1,500 fans and turn several hundred away at the door. CZW pulled its Fake You TV from the station several months back after WGTW refused to air a show featuring "questionable content," although much of the content had previously aired on CZW shows in the past.

A number of other independent promotions regularly used the station including NWA Wildside (currently airing), Major League Wrestling, XPW, GLOOW, WXW, Ring of Honor and the Premier Wrestling Federation. WWE also aired regularly on the station as well. With the loss of WGTW in the Philadelphia market, the local independent scene has just lost a major asset.
