I have a Hughes HIRD-E86 HD receiver which I have had for 3 years now. Yes, it had many guide related problems, overheating, poor signal, resets, etc. BUT, it NEVER HAD an issue with decoding any HD channels that I can receive over OTA or through DTV. In other words the decode was flawless. Now, it ended up dying completely so I went ahead and picked up Samsun 360 at Circuit City. Well, this is a 3 years newer receiver and it fails to decode ESPNHD during commercials and sometimes during football games, HDNET sometimes, BRAVOHD. It has huge lipsync issues. It basically, starts messing with the picture like speeding it up, slowing it down, etc. because it cannot sync with audio. This seems ridiculous to me since I know MPEG2 stream coming in has proper information to decode it correctly (as evidenced by Hughes HIRD-E86). So, I just have one question for anyone since this is very frustrating to me: Can anyone tell me is there a DTV HD receiver which does not have HD decode problems and lipsync issues? That is all I am asking for. I do not care if it reboots, or does any other funny guide items. I just want to watch HDTV without having lipsync issues.

From what I have read tonight, there is an opinion building that the pick is boiling down to the Toshiba DST-3100 / RCA DTC-210 owners which are not reporting this issue. These are two receivers which where very late in release.

While the TS-160 may not suffer from HD audio sync problems, it has been discontinued for a year, and does suffer from MC audio dropouts.

What's MC? I do have problems with my OTA CBS-HD (WCCO). Sound drops out even after rebooting, reseting. The CSR told me it was my connection to the station not the unit.

EDIT: Just figured that out. Music Channels. I NEVER get a drop out on those thankfully.

DirecTV Has created their own HD receiver and is the most current, so that's probably the one to go with.

OK, so what is this new DTV Receiver and how do I get it? Should I be calling DTV to get it?

D* exclusive label HD receivers will not ship until next year. Then the big guess will be, who is the OEM manuf, and does D* really understand what kind of support nightmare they have signed themselves up for?

What is the most disturbing is that D* still manages to remove any reference to MC audio drop outs & HD audio sync issues from their database and has done so for over a year. Every customer call on this issue remains a new startling discovery to the CSR.

Well my perfect TS160 is going to be replaced. Heh. CSR said no unit should be too hot to touch and that's the reason, most likely, that I have problems with OTA HD channels (one in particular).

We'll see what I am stepping into when Fedex gets it here.
