View Full Version : Question about switching for E* to D*

I'm considering dropping E* and going with D*. I did a quick search on D*'s website and couldn't find out much information about what dish setup I need to get pretty much all the programming in my area (NFLST, HD, regular D* channels, locals).

I'm in the Atlanta area and currently have this setup:

Dish 500 Twin
Dish 300 @ 61.5

When Dish installed my system, they ran 4 coax cables from the roof the to the basement (2 from the 500 and 2 from 300). I've disconnected 1 one of the 300's coax connection to use for my OTA antenna (much easier than running new cabling). Through a couple of switches, I'm running two receivers off of that setup.

So, if I switch to D*, will the installer have to run new cabling? Or, better yet, would I be able to install the dish myself and not have to get an installer involved?

TIA,

TW

I'm down in Stockbridge & I'm probably going to do the same thing this November. I only have 1 Dish 500 with one cable down the side of the house. Four receivers (I would like to get 5 from E*) so **bump** to have this answered.

All they'll need to do is put up an D* oval dish, which has 4 outputs, which will work just fine with your existing cabling. Make SURE that you get at LEAST 1 D-Tivo - you will NOT regret it.

Self install sound like a good idea for your situation. The new 18x20 DIRECTV triple LNB dish uses 4 coax cables and the same Dish Network mast pipe.

We give self installer a $50. courtesy cash rebate and DIRECTV just started an additional $50. DVR rebate.

I switched in Jan/Feb and have not looked back once. You'll not regret it!

I just did that... you need a 3 LNB "Oval" dish... use the same cable. I had an installer come in... her just popped the old dish off, checked the connections, placed the DirectTV on the same pole, aimed it... installed the recevers... cheked the signal, and called DTV to setup programming.

=-)

Now I just keep getting calls from E* asking why I left them after 6+ Years.
