I am a former Pegasus customer, who has switched back to DirecTV. However, I'm having the following problems with DirecTV, which have been unresolved for over a month:

1) I cannot set up an online account on directv.com. Apparently, this problem is common to all ex-Pegasus customers. Too bad DirecTV won't tell you about this unless you call the 800 number.

2) Albuquerque local channels were recently added. I need a receiver and dish upgrade to add them (I have the original, circa-1994, RCA receiver/dish). The DirecTV people who handle receiver upgrades (800-908-4388) can't find my current DirecTV account in their database. Interestingly, when they use my card ID as the key, they find my old DirecTV account - the one I had before I moved to Pegasus territory. No receiver upgrade - all they can do is enter a trouble ticket, which probably goes into the circular file.

I'm tempted to go to my local store, get a "free" receiver, a new DirecTV account, and cancel my current DirecTV account. Has anyone tried this ?

That would actually be the simplest way - just use a different phone# (like a cell phone) to establish your new account & you're all set.

I just returned from Kansas, which had a large Pegasus market. I had constant problems getting installs and conversions completed.

If you give them ANY info that you have an existing Peg account, you're screwed. They would routinely give me a canned message that the customer would have to wait on the automatic conversion (6 weeks!), I was constantly bumping calls up the line at dtv to get things done. I averaged 1-1 1/2 hours per Pegasus job getting them up and programmed.

Hey stevel if you sent in the pegasus conversion paperwork and were called back to setup the conversion you probably have a special acct that only certain csrs can access or even find in the system. You can confirm by checking your new D* acct number. If it is an acct number in the 3 million range then it is one of these accts. Just call D* and ask to be transferred to CIS. Most all CIS CSRs have access to your acct type and they are the CSRs that should place your upgrade order anyways. You should be able to reach a cis rep directly at 888.355.7530. If at all possible call between 10pm and 12am est and your wait shouldn't be too long.
