Hi guys I have a question I just bought a DirecTV system from solidsignal.com and it arrived today, The installer called today and is coming from about 90 miles away to install it but cant come for a week and on top of it has to do it during the week and I do not want to take a day off of work for this. I have all the proper tools and RG6 cable and am more than capable to install it myself (I installed my Dish system years ago) but the box has a large orange sticker on the box stating the installer has to open it for warranty purposes. This is not a DTV sticker just a plain orange sticker.
So my question is will DirecTV honor the warranty on hardware if it is self installed?
Thanks in advance!
It is not a matter of DirecTV honoring the warranty. Simply put, DirecTV has nothing to do with your product's warranty unless you pay them for their "insurance". You may be able to complain your way into them helping you, but that is about all. The orange sticker is from the company you bought it from. They primarily want to make sure it is activated and activated properly for them to receive credit. They can also hold you liable if anything is missing if you open it before the installer arrives. It is for your protection and theirs. The actual act of installation is not as big a deal unless you want them to cover installation related issues. Simple fact, depending on the installation company or person they are using in your area, you may be a better installer than they have. I have seen many a poor installation before. It is your call. If it is not "properly" activated (which is the big issue for them---they want their $$$ from D*) they do reserve the right to backcharge you if you violated any of their rules for the purchase. Best bet, call solidsignal.com and tell them you cannot wait. They need to get an installer out there more rapidly or you will return their system and get it from another place that can have it installed in 2 days (like a CC or BB). You may be bluffing (or not) but they may put forth a little more effort.
Now if you are in BFE you may be SOL. Sorry for the acromyms.

Is the product warrentied from the company you bought it from or the Manufacturer?

How do you activate inproperly? I would assume its cut and dried, call them give them the required info and its activated.
I just went back and read the terms and conditions of the purchase from solidsignal.com and it does not state is has to be installed by their installers only that all IRD's have to be activated within 30 days or i am subject to $150 charge per IRD.
Anything else I should know before making my decision?
Thanks!
