Have you tried to boot into safe mode? Press F8 when the system first starts to boot Windows.
Also, you might try this (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html) to reset the password on the system.

That's a great little utility, I used the older verson once and it can come in handy for a few things. You may not have entered a password but with NT based operating systems local accounts are required, you can have Windows remember your username and password and have it automatically log you in, but a password is set.

Paranoid li'l me, if I would ever purchase a computer from eBay, the very first thing I'd do is wipe the hard drive repeatedly. I'd hate to get one that quietly records my keystrokes and phones home when it connects to the 'Net. I'd also hate for my hard drive to have leftover "erased" but easily recoverable files dealing with illegal stuff.
So after being very, very sure that absolutely nothing remained, that's when I'd install Windows. And that would eliminate the password issue. :D

I agree with carload 110% on this issue. Boot that thing with a DOS disk, and FDISK it. Blow away all the partitions and make new ones, then start with a clean install of your favorite poison (windoze).
The utility invaliduser mentioned works great. Also works with XP.
