Do I need the power insert to run a SW64 off of a Dish 6000 system? It appears you can plug the power supply directly into a port on the Dish 6000. Is this true?
:hi: Thanks in advance.

Yes you do need the power inserted on the SW64. I would not try plugging it in to the 6000, thats an expensive baby to fry. :D

You will need the power inserter... The dc port on the back of Dish recievers is for either a SWAJ or a IR extender. The SWAJ is a old multiswitch that is no longer produced, but is still supported.

Thanks for the info.
How weatherized is the SW64? What level of protection do I need to give the SW64 from rain, sun, etc...

I don't think I would put it in direct sunlight (heat), but it should be waterproof. I put mine inside, but my parent's sw64 is mounter under one of their eaves and it does just fine. Keep the power inserter inside, though.

The SW64 is essentially weatherproof like most multiswitches. However, if you choose or need to mount it outside you should use some elementary precausions.
Be sure to create "drip loops" in the cables so that moisture does not migrate into the connections. I would recommend shielding it from rain, snow & direct sunlight, if possible, by mounting it under an eave or overhang.
We put it in an attic or crawlspace whenever possible.
