I just got my October issue of Directv the guide and I seen that on October 15-17 Directv will be having a free preview weekend of the Total Choice Premier package. :D

Cool! It's been about a year and a half since they last had one. Hopefully they won't add banners with an 800 # to the bottom of the screen during the movies.

Time to clear out some space on the DVR.

Cool! Hope they have some good movies on. That's the first time they've had one since I've had DirecTV.

Sweet and I'm still trying to recover from the Starz weekend what will I do with all those channels?! I don't think my DVR has enough room.

Hehe...I think everybody's got their DVR's running hot because of all these free views. I know I filled up about 2 6hr tapes that I need to find time to watch because of starz.

Cool thanks for the heads up Bjflynn!
Your Welcome. Now I wish we can find out more information on the new interactive service and what receivers will work with it. :)

I bought a month of UNlimited Movie Rentals from Blockbuster recently (only a month) and it was the first time I have ever not watched some new movies on a freeview.
I wonder what goodies will be on in October though?
Awesome my DVD recorder will get some use. :)
Does anyone know if the HD versions of HBO and Showtime will be included in the freeview?

Well, I decided to go through the list and see what I can record over the Total Choice Premiere weekend. Unfortunately, some of the movies that I wanted to record were airing either before or after the premiere weekend. The only recommendations would be anime, of course. :( Anyways, here is what I'm recording over the weekend: Fri 3:15 AM - Tokyo Godfathers (crossing my fingers) Fri 7:00 AM - Crucible of Horror Fri 8:00 AM - Seabiscuit Fri 8:30 AM - Fortress (the 1985 version) Fri 6:30 PM - One Hour Photo Sat 7:45 AM - Hero Sun 9:00 AM - The Ring Sun 10:20 AM - In The Year 2889 Sun 5:45 PM - JFKSo, I think I have enough on the movie cheese side.

Do any of the premium channels use the "broadcast flag"?
I have a DVD Recorder that won't record directly to DVD-R if the broadcast flag is turned on. I have not run into the problem yet with anything I've recorded to DVD-R, including a PPV moive, but I seem to recall reading that HBO uses it or something similar to prevent multiple digital recordings?

I've had one movie so far that overran. Directv quit recording before the movie was over. A Woody Allen movie 'Anything Else' on HBO2 East.

A quick check this morning shows that Tokyo Godfathers was recorded properly this morning from Starz!

I've been able to record several movies to DVD-R without problems. Either the premium channels are not using the signal to block recordings or I don't understand the following from the manual:
> * Some broadcasts carry signals that allow you to copy once,
> but you cannot record them with DVD-R. Use DVD-RAM to record
> these kinds of broadcast.
