The Air Traffic control system was switched from Unix to Windows and they had to periodically reboot the server or it would reboot itself after 49.7 days.
A missed reboot caused the timer to go off and the system to reboot itself at the wrong moment.
Yup, Windows is definitely an Enterprise class environment....:nono:

What's even funnier is that the Flash ad right now is for Windows Server System :)
you know, I'm not really a windows basher, but wtf were they thinking.

I'm thinking that the idiotic government contractors that wrote the APPLICATION software were the same ones that wrote the 921 code - that has to be rebooted at least every 10 days.
It's NOT the Windows Operating System itself - heck, I've got one that hasn't been rebooted in 6 months or so.

Their tech guys should have know that. Everyone who uses Windows knows it's not like UNIX. Depending on what applications it runs, a reboot is a necessity.

:nono2: :nono: :nono2: :nono: The only relationship between old junker versions of consumer Windows and Windows 2000 Server is that Miscrosoft is the vendor for both of them.
Considering the KB article you referenced is over 5 years old, I think even the most dedicated M$ basher will recognize that it's not the same problem.
In fact, it may not even be a Microsoft software problem at ALL.
However, it may be the same root cause - 49.71027 days is exactly 2**32 milliseconds.
Oh - HarryD - the 721, 921, etc. run Linux and they have to be rebooted a LOT more often than 49.7 days.

I can't remember when my Windows 2003 Server was last turned off or rebooted - probably about 3 months ago when I got it a new heatsink/fan. Before that..... when I moved it from one room to another in April. Before that... err, sometime last year I think.
My XP Pro PCs were last rebooted when SP2 was installed. I will have to turn off the desktop on Monday, it's getting an Audigy 2 ZS to replace its SB Pro Live!
Other than hardware changes, they all just run 24/7.
